Hospice is a special way of caring for a person who is facing a life-limiting illness in the familiar surroundings of home. Hospice focuses on the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their family members. While providing assistance and meeting the needs of seriously ill patients and their families, hospice focuses on promoting comfort and self determination, enabling patients to participate in making decisions about care towards the ends of their lives. Hospice regards dying as a meaningful part of each individual's life and as a normal process.
Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death and promotes a belief that, through personalized care and a compassionate community, patients and their loved ones can attain the necessary physical, spiritual, and emotional preparation for death.
