First Friday Summer Art Walk Season Begins! Launch the First Friday summer “Art Walk” season at The Artists’ Gallery on June 7th from 5-8 p.m. Join us for a delightful evening of incredible art, live folk/rock music performed by Tom Gudding, and refreshments served by our member-artists! Featured Artists are: Award-winning Watercolor artist, Judy Weyenberg, credits her mother, accomplished Watercolor artist Enid Andrews, for being her inspiration and main source of encouragement. Her influence is evident; Judy’s luminous landscape paintings and captivating still life studies beguile the viewer with their extraordinary tranquility and beauty! Her treatment of large washes of clear, vibrant color, subtly demonstrates “just the right amount of lack of control”. Ann Sullivan-McKean is currently exploring one of the oldest painting media, Encaustics—an ancient technique dating to 2nd Century A.D. Egypt. Also known as hot wax painting, the technique involves suspending colored pigments in heated beeswax. The paint is built up in relief, creating translucent layers, for a rich optical effect. Ann explains, “This approach is conducive to my attempt to take the viewer on a psychological journey familiar to surrealism.” In our Collector’s Corner, we are pleased to exhibit the artwork of guest artist, Beverly O’Neil. A signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado, Beverly has been creating in pastel for nearly 20 years and has participated in and won many awards in regional and national art shows. Mixed media/paper artist, Dakota Rogers, will demonstrate a “Make and Take” greeting card tutorial, where some guests can learn the basics and take home their own handiwork! On Sunday, June 9th, Dakota will be offering an in-depth designer card making class at the Gallery at 1:30 p.m. The $25.00 fee, payable upon signing up at the Gallery’s sales desk (no credit cards, please), includes hands-on instruction and all materials. The class is limited to 10 participants. Also, on First Friday from 4-7 p.m., The Fremont Center for the Arts is hosting the opening reception for the exhibit, “Local Color: A Collaboration”. Featuring art from Fremont County Art Galleries, the show is a visual statement from the creative community, representing the incredible talent and artwork available locally. Sponsored by The Artists’ Gallery’s owner, Sammy Burman, and well-known local photographer, Barbara Smith, the exhibit will run through June 29th. The FCA is located at 505 Macon Ave, Cañon City. The Artists’ Gallery, recipient of the 2018 Reader’s Choice Award for Favorite Art Gallery, represents 50 amazing local artists, offering fine original art and gift items. The Gallery, 416 Main St., Cañon City, is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information call (719)345-4070 or visit: www.facebook.com/TheArtistsGallery/.
