Central Colorado Conservancy Hosting Lewis’ Woodpecker Workshop May 19
The Central Colorado Conservancy is conducting a workshop on teaching individuals how to record sightings of Lewis’s Woodpecker, a declining species in Colorado. This workshop will take place in the field on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in Canon City from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. The workshop is free and anyone is encouraged to attend, please register by contacting Julie Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 719-539-7700. At the time of registration, the meeting location will be given. Dress appropriate for being outside for two hours, binoculars are suggested if you have them. The workshop is part of the Central Colorado Conservancy’s Lewis’s Woodpecker Project in partnership with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The project encourages volunteer Citizen Science participants to record observations of this woodpecker. Conservancy staff then use this data to help determine habitat conservation priorities for the species in Central Colorado. Protecting the habitat of the woodpecker will help this species and many others. Wildlife biologist Cindy Lawrence will conduct the workshop. Cindy is an experienced biologist having worked for U.S. Forest Service, BLM, tribal agencies and in the private sector. She has conducted numerous bird surveys in Colorado and the West.
